The new Lincoln Middle School created a modern learning environment adjacent to Lincoln High School. The 53,000-square-foot facility serves approximately 430 students in grades six through eight.

Site constraints played an important role in the design. OMNI Associates – Architects developed a solution that gives the middle school its own identity while complementing the architecture of the existing high school. Together, the two schools create a cohesive campus environment.

A prominent entrance welcomes students, staff, and visitors while supporting school security requirements. An angled wall defines the entrance and provides a backdrop for colorful graphics that add character to the building.

Inside, a spacious lobby serves as a central gathering and circulation area. A monumental open stair creates an atrium-like environment and brings natural light into the space. The stair also provides students with convenient access to classrooms on the upper level.

Glass walls at the administrative offices and media center maintain an open atmosphere. At the same time, they give staff clear views of the lobby and secured visitor entrance. Shatter-resistant glass at the entrance provides another layer of security while maintaining visibility.

OMNI organized the primary educational spaces into separate grade-level learning pods. Each pod includes classrooms, a science lab, restrooms, special needs classrooms, and faculty planning areas.

Shared specialty classrooms are located on the first floor for convenient access by all grade levels. These spaces include an art room, computer lab, technology education rooms, and family and consumer science classrooms.

The school also includes a 900-square-foot community-based health clinic. This space expands the facility’s role beyond education by providing an additional resource for students and the surrounding community.

Through thoughtful planning, Lincoln Middle School balances education, security, accessibility, and a strong connection to the existing high school campus.
